Alex Garnick (he/him)
Alex Garnick is an attorney at Shook, Hardy & Bacon LLP where he focuses on the defense of multinational pharmaceutical and medical device companies in multidistrict complex products liability litigation and runs a practice within the firm's pro bono program to provide name and gender marker changes for low-income transgender clients. Alex is a graduate of Bates College in Lewiston, Maine and the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law in Baltimore, Maryland. At Maryland Law, he won the William P. Cunningham Award, the Jackson Lewis LLP Labor & Employment Award, and was a two-time nominee for the MLK Diversity Award for his work in extending healthcare coverage to students' same-sex partners and adding gender identity and expression to the school's non-discrimination policy. He has spoken on panels such as at the Symposium on Transgender Issues in Law and Policy held by Georgetown Law and at a Federal Executive Board of Kansas City. He is currently a Steering Committee member of TransLAW and has previously served on the Board of Directors for the National LGBTQ Task Force and KC LEGAL. Alex joined the NCTE Board in 2016.
