TJ Billard is Archival Fellow at the National Center for Transgender Equality and a PhD candidate in the Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism at the University of Southern California. His research focuses primarily on transgender representation in political media and on the communicative practices of the transgender rights movement. His work has been published in the Journal of Communication, International Journal of Communication, Mass Communication & Society, Frontiers in Psychology, Archives of Sexual Behavior, and Marketing Theory, as well as in several edited volumes. His research has also been presented at the conferences of the International Communication Association, American Political Science Association, American Sociological Association, and the Media, Communication and Cultural Studies Association, among others. At NCTE, he is working to build an archive of the organization's history and to document the work that has gone into achieving the movement's most significant policy victories.
