“Injustice Anywhere is a Threat to Justice Everywhere”: Commemorating Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

On the third Monday in January, the United States recognizes Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s teachings and vision of a free and equal world. Every social justice movement over the last several decades has shared Dr. King’s basic commitment to making the world a more just place, and the trans movement is no exception.

Of course, movements seeking justice for Black people and those seeking justice for trans people overlap. We will not have achieved equality for trans people until we have achieved equality for all trans people, including Black trans people.
