It’s Not ‘Perverse’ to Support Students Like My Daughter

Image

Representative Collins:

From the outside, my family seems like a typical one: two parents, a daughter, three sons, two cats, a dog, and a pig (well, maybe the pig isn’t so typical). I run my kids to music lessons, bring us together for dinner time, and enjoy monthly family game nights. We look like an everyday working family.

My 14-year-old daughter, Trinity, is a normal teenage girl. She hangs out with her brothers and her friends, creates her own video games, and never cleans her room. She’s starting high school next year. She’s also transgender. That’s the only thing that makes her different from other 14-year-olds in families just like ours all over Delaware.

Trinity is herself. She never chose who to be. She just is.
