A court filing in one of the four cases against President Donald Trump’s ban against open service by transgender troops revealed yesterday that the Trump administration plans to announce a new version of the ban on February 21.

NCTE Executive Director Mara Keisling issued the following statement:

President Trump’s transgender ban is senseless, unconstitutional, and bad for the country. Trans Ban 2.0 is sure to also be senseless, unconstitutional, and bad for the country. No matter how the administration re-brands, any policy that singles people out because they are transgender cannot pass the smell test. Professional associations like the American Medical Association have rejected the notion that anything about being transgender makes one unfit to serve, and the Department of Defense’s own studies have confirmed this. Thousands of trained, capable transgender troops in every branch of service prove every day that they are fit to serve, and firing even a fraction of them just because of who they are would be a pointless and heartless waste of resources. Congress must act now to stop this ban—and all of its iterations—once and for all.
