Today, President Trump appointed anti-abortion leader and anti-transgender bigot Charmaine Yoest as Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
“It’s almost as if President Trump is trying to find people who say the most mean, spiteful, hateful things about transgender people to fill roles in his administration,” said NCTE Executive Director Mara Keisling.
Yoest has repeatedly called transgender people “crazy,” labeled transgender people “creatures,” used anti-transgender slurs, said parents should worry about having transgender people around their children, and referred to medical care for transgender people as “a joke”—flying in the face of the views of every major medical association.
