Washington, D.C. – TLDEF Staff Attorney Shayna Medley (they/she) joins a small group of rising legal stars in being recognized as one of 2022’s Best LGBTQ+ Lawyers Under 40 by the LGBTQ+ Bar Association.

Each year, the National LGBTQ+ Bar Association recognizes LGBTQ+ legal professionals (practicing lawyers, law professors, corporate counsel, members of the judiciary, politicians, etc.) under the age of 40 who have distinguished themselves in their field and have demonstrated a profound commitment to LGBTQ+ equality. Medley and their fellow awardees will be recognized during the 2022 Lavender Law® Conference and Career Fair.

2022 was a highly competitive year for this award, with over 80 nominations for very qualified and passionate young LGBTQ+ attorneys.

Senior Counsel Gabriel Arkles said:

“We’re delighted that Shayna is being recognized for their excellent, relentless work for trans communities and gender justice. In her career she has focused on defending trans young people from discrimination in schools, protecting abortion rights, and teaching law students and newer attorneys. Now with us at TLDEF, they have already made major contributions, particularly in advocacy for criminalized and incarcerated trans people. I can’t wait to see what she does next.”
